Established in 1998, Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the largest nonprofit dedicated exclusively to young adults diagnosed with breast cancer age 40 and under and their co-survivor support networks. YSC also educates and influences the medical, research and legislative communities to address breast cancer in young adults.
Through educational resources and programming, annual conferences, and local and online support networks, YSC ensures no young adult faces breast cancer alone.
Amanda Cullen is an aerospace engineer, passionate advocate for STEM education, especially through her work with FIRST Robotics. She has been involved with FIRST as a volunteer across FRC, FTC, and FLL events in multiple states. Amanda has mentored teams including FRC Team 2458 (Team Chaos which she is an alum of), FRC Team 3035 (Droid Rage in Corpus Christi Texas), FRC Team 548, the Robostangs from Michigan, and currently mentors FRC Team 1038, Lakota Robotics in Ohio. Her favorite part of robotics is working directly with students—guiding them not only in engineering and problem-solving but also in building confidence and leadership.
In June 2021, at just 26 years old, Amanda was diagnosed with breast cancer. Throughout her treatment and recovery, she found strength through the Young Survival Coalition, a nonprofit that supports young adults facing breast cancer. Despite the challenges of her diagnosis and life altering effects of treatment, Amanda continues to dedicate her time and energy to mentoring students in STEM. This event honors her journey and resilience, with proceeds going to the Young Survival Coalition in recognition of the support that helped her through.
